A Boston Marathon is unlike any other marathon in the world. Much like most things in Boston, the Boston Marathon is unique, timeless, and full of history. With the 119th year approaching, this beloved marathon is the oldest city marathon in the world. Just one of many impressing facts related to it.
Of course, we cannot talk about the Boston Marathon without first mentioning the bombings that occurred just three years ago. A shocking and heartbreaking event, many of us may first think about the bombings when we hear “Boston Marathon.” It
not only effected those in New England, but the heartbreak spread to the rest of the world as well, as seen here at the London Marathon just days later. However, through the resilience of everyone involved, we can remember the day and move forward with time to continue to celebrate the tradition of the Boston Marathon.
It’s a Marathon Like No Other
So, you may be thinking what else is there that makes the Boston Marathon so…special? While we think there are infinite reasons, here are just a few to start off with:
The community comes together with thousands of volunteers and supporters
A difficult course with rolling hills making it nearly impossible to qualify
Only a selective group can actually qualify to run
Ever Heard of Heartbreak Hill?
The Boston Marathon isn’t for those that are weak at heart. You may be at sea level; however, the Boston Marathon course is one of the most varied in elevation. Refer to the diagram on the left to see just how much more difficult it is to run in this marathon.
It Could Be Your Cinderella Story
Picture this: you’re an athlete who’s been training to run marathons your whole life. You may even have a favorite marathon runner. You’ve just qualified to run the Boston Marathon, and now you get to run with, or for some of us far behind, the top runners in THE WORLD. That’s like getting to play guitar with your favorite rock band, or tossing the ball around with a Major League Baseball player. In the world of sports, that never happens. At the Boston Marathon, you are as much a part of it as the elites.
Become A Part Of It
If you have never been to Boston, you’re missing out. Now of course I may be slightly biased, but it really is one of the best cities around! The Boston Marathon is just one example of the love and the passion that surrounds the city. Join us one day, whether it be as a runner, a medical volunteer, or even as just a fan. Because here in Boston, everyone is welcome, and everyone is a part of something that is bigger than themselves. And really, how does it get better than that?
Adapting to change can be hard sometimes. It’s a known fact: fast food is bad, so why do people keep eating it? Is it the lack of motivation? Or is it because they don’t think it’s will taste good? Eat for life lets you explore a fresh clean lifestyle.
Taking steps day by day will result in the best progression. First, start with your eating habit. Make it a daily challenge to strive for better options. Farm fresh foods not only make you feel good about yourself but it makes a huge difference for the community. It’s a win- win situation when you’re supporting local farms and get to enjoy their rich produce.
Healthy eating philosophy: natural food can be the base for dishes that are delicious, easy to make, and satisfying. If experimenting with natural foods is not your area of expertise, then start simple. Later on you can get creative with your meals. Farm fresh foods give you a chance to make unique dishes that taste amazing yet guilt free.Need some inspiration? Check out the neighborhood farmers market. They provide the best seasonal produce which is freshly harvested.Cold weather is all about those greens. Tender bok choy, crispy lettuce and juicy limes, yes please. Then again warm weather is coming up sooner than you think, and summer means salads. Say you’re more of a classic cucumber and tomatoes kind of person. Think outside the bowl with more summer vegetables. Try some peppers, edamame or add a southwest kick to it with beans and corn. There’s nothing more refreshing than seasonal produce. The best element of farm fresh food is that it’s guaranteed to leave you feeling full and energized.
Watching what you’re eating is only part of the eat for life equation. The other part is staying fit. Make an effort to continuously seek new ways to improve and stay active. Remember to stick to the basics, keep hydrated (that’s a big one), follow an active routine, and make goals. Only then can you perform to your best ability. No matter what it’s like outside there’s always a way to exercise. By the way, yoga is a great relaxing way to experience exercise on a low key level. A favorite go-to when the weather is not ideal. If you’re still losing that motivation, make an effort to give some kind of reward at the end. It’s hard not to make the reward sweet and sugary but if ice cream is a must then try for a better alternative, frozen yogurt. Less fat but a whole lot of love and delight.
We change our eating habits for a valuable future. We eat for life.As cliché as it may be, it can be a whole new chapter to your life. It will provide you with the extra energy you need to excel at other day to day actives you have going on.It’s all up to you. Set a goal for yourself now to start exceptional living.Make mindful choices today, for a better tomorrow.

Do you ever wonder what it might be like to be the most courageous, brave-hearted, unselfish person in the world? I know what you’re thinking; Superman is only fictional (hey, only to some of you!!). Anyway, I imagine that’s what a superhero must feel like. But, an even more notable superhero to me is every man or woman out there who can selflessly call themselves veterans of our country.
We see them on TV, countless movies are made where the Army is pretty much the central theme, and there are numerous amounts of books available about the military. Truth is, I know I will never truly be able to accurately imagine what it must be like to be a veteran. The bravery that families must also face at home is equally unimaginable. It is so heartwarming to watch videos of soldiers coming home to families, and nearly impossible to do so without tearing up. Simply writing this blog, I find it hard to put into words how grateful I am of each and every veteran out there for putting his or her life on the line for our country. To express this gratitude, FiRE+iCE will be providing veterans and their families with free lunch or free dinner on November 10th and 11th. Happy Veterans Day everyone, and thank you troops!!
What is a SUPER SAUCE?? Well…just in case our homemade sauces didn’t add enough zing! to your dish, we have turned up the FLAVOR! Super Sauces are a blend of our sauces with fresh herbs and spices. Crafted for flavor-lovers these combinations add all the heat, sizzle and savory-ness you are craving.
Do you ever wonder what the deal is with black beans? Are they a protein? A vegetable? Some people call them a fruit! Before we discovered their slightly sweet flavor and creamy texture, we were kinda confused. There were so many questions, so few answers. But folks, we realized that the questions don’t really matter, because they’re delicious! And you can add them to literally any meal. Even brunch (keep reading, we’ll tell you how).
Black beans are staples in Central and South American cuisines, so put them in your tacos or mix them with rice add some lime and cilantro. But don’t stop there! Mix them with pineapple, green pepper, chicken and any of our Latin sauces. They bring out the flavor of shrimp, so mix the two up with some Jalapeno Lime sauce, corn and peppers. Love our honey garlic sauce? Pair it with black beans and broccoli. Black beans even go with marinara, so grab some sausage, peppers and onions and you have a creative twist on Italian! Mangia!
If you’re tossing some bacon in your bowl, don’t forget the black beans. Those two are a match made in heaven. Want to try black beans at brunch? Eggs, bacon, black beans, tomatoes and cheese. Trust us, you will thank yourself!
It’s no wonder these awesome little beans have been a staple in Latin diets for thousands of years! And with all their calcium, iron, vitamins, fiber and other good-for-you stuff, they’ve been called a “super food” for weight loss and health. So don’t let confusion about black beans hold you back from deliciousness. No matter what cuisine you’re in the mood for, let our chefs throw some black beans on the grill for you next time you come in!
